Happy 1st Birthday, Deacon!

Oh, Deacon! How you've changed our lives so much in the last year!  This little boy has brought so much joy, exhaustion, laughter, happiness, wonder, and suspense into our lives during his short little life.  He is full of energy and loves to explore.  He's our all-American B-O-Y!

Deacon started standing really well between 8 and 9 months. By 10 months he was taking small steps.  And by his birthday, he was RUNNING.  He's also figured out how to run away from us and is even sneaky enough to try and sneak away when no one is looking.  He says "momma, dada, and 'oh' for 'uh-oh'."  He's right on track developmentally, and is a little head in his motor skills (doesn't take a doctor to tell us that though!)  He's our little eater and will eat almost anything we put in front of him.  He's still nursing, but will probably be stopping that soon due to his awesome humor of biting mom.  He loves his bottle, but is still having a hard time figuring out his sippy cup.

If he could talk, I guarantee he would say his best friend is his big brother!  The two of them literally wrestle, and Deacon hangs in there.  It's actually kind of scary because I try and tell Tim to be gentle (as he's jumping off the couch onto Deacon), but Deacon just laughs so it's hard for Tim to understand it's dangerous! They play really well together, and it's true that nothing makes a momma's heart happier than hearing her kids laughing together.

Deacon is a little cuddler and steals hearts everywhere.  He walks up to both of his grandmas to be held and cuddled.  Grandma Mel is especially in touch with when he wants a bottle.  He seems to know that and almost always goes up to her around 10 am and starts whining for his bottle before his nap.

Deacon loves all things dangerous.  His favorite thing is to stand on top of things like boxes or slides and clap his hands.  He knows when I tell him it's "dangerous" and just laughs and laughs.  He's also developed a cute little hitting habit.  He winds up and slaps me. It's awesome... not! He loves to "get my nose" by biting it, and especially loves to eat toes.  He gives high fives and gets the biggest grin while he does it.

Deacon loves having his baby cousins around, but still hasn't quite figured out how to be nice.  He pulls on ears and faces, but luckily Karter has figured out how to do it back.  Hopefully Chase learns to defend himself soon, too!

Deacon truly brings so much joy and happiness into our lives.  I can't imagine life without him!

Deacon's nicknames: Deeks, Deeks-McGeeks, Squish, Brute, Stinkin

12 1/2 Months Stats
Weight: 22.44 lbs - 40%
Length: 29.25 inches - 26%
Head: 18.9 inches - 87%

His shots were so sad this time around.  He's definitely old enough to get that "Why did you let them do that to me, momma?!" face.  I totally betrayed him.  Luckily he just cuddled right up and was fine after a minute or two.  He's so sweet!

Deacon's birthday was super fun.  Mel got him balloons and had all his presents wrapped for him when we got up. He was pretty scared of the presents apparently which is unusual for him.  But how cute is that crying face?!  He got an awesome Monster Truck and gas station and a Little People car tower.  He loves ALL his gifts.  So fun!

We did his cake smash at Grandma and Grandpa Frampton's a few days later.  Oh my word, such a mess! But so fun!

First Snow of the Season

On our first snow that stuck of the season, Tim really wanted to get outside.  Since we THOUGHT we were moving to California, I wanted to get the boys in the snow as much as possible before we left.  I got them all dressed and headed outside.  Deacon was pretty unsure of the white stuff at first, but Tim jumped right in.  His favorite thing to do in the snow is make snow angels.  Of course now that he has a little brother, snow ball fights are at the top of that list, too!  Deacon was a trooper, especially when he fell face first into the snow.  He can't quite move in his little snowsuit.  We think he looks just like Ralphie's little brother from "The Christmas Story." He definitely eats piggy style like him!

Tim was super awesome and dumped snow on top of Deacon's head.  Lucky for Tim, Deacon doesn't seem to mind all the big brother shady business that goes on daily around here.  It was so cute though because Deacon apparently got thirsty while we were playing and figured out all on his own that he could eat the snow.  He would bend down and put his face in the snow, lick a little, then sit up.

After we played together, I took Deacon inside to warm up.  Tim wanted to build a snowman so I got out our snowman kit and built a pretty fun little one with him.  Apparently when I went back inside he used it as a punching bag and knocked it right over.

Side note: the other day I had his suit on him again.  I stood him up, but he started to fall.  Because he can't move, he completely just "plank" fell strait backwards without bending anywhere.  I caught him, stood him up, and he did it again.  HILARIOUS!
